Manage class unavailability

You can mark specific periods as unavailable to ensure we don't schedule lessons when your students aren't free.

To set this up, go to Classes and click the edit icon for the class you're working on. You'll find the unavailability table at the bottom of the page.

Unavailability types

We provide two ways to handle unavailability:

Block (Strict) — These appear in red. We'll never schedule a lesson during these times. Use this for requirements that are set in stone, like recurring off-site activities or mandatory breaks.

Avoid (Flexible) — These appear in yellow. We'll do our best to keep these periods empty, but the system might schedule a lesson here if it's the only way to make the timetable work. This is ideal for preferences rather than strict requirements.

How to configure unavailability

  1. Pick the tool you want to use: Block (Strict) or Avoid (Flexible).
  2. Click individual cells, or click and drag to highlight a range of periods.
  3. Click a day (row) to mark the entire day as unavailable.
  4. Click a period (column) to apply that unavailability to the same time slot every day of the week.
  5. Click Save to apply your changes.

If you need to remove an unavailability, just select the tool you used and click the cell again. You can also use Reset all to clear the entire table and start over.

Tips for finding the right balance

If you block too many periods, the system might have trouble finding a valid solution for your timetable. We recommend using Avoid (Flexible) whenever possible. We'll show you a warning if you've blocked more than 50% of a group's weekly periods.
