When should I use divisions?

Overview

You need a division whenever only part of a class attends a lesson. The division tells the scheduler which subgroups belong together so it can avoid creating gaps in students' timetables.

Common scenarios:

Foreign language groups

A class is split into subgroups based on their language choice or proficiency level. Each subgroup attends a different language lesson; the scheduler knows they belong to the same division and will try to keep their slots aligned without leaving gaps.

Optional subjects

Students choose between two or more elective subjects (e.g. Music vs. Informatics). Each student attends one of them — grouping them under the same division prevents gaps in either group's schedule.

Physical education

A class is divided by gender or activity group. Boys and Girls attend PE in different locations, often with different teachers. Grouping them under the same division prevents gaps in either group's schedule.

Computer lab sessions

A single lab room can only accommodate half the class at a time. The class is split into two groups that rotate through the lab.

If all your lessons are taught to the entire class without splitting, you do not need to configure any divisions.
